Effects of Exercise Intensity on Postexercise Endothelial Function and Oxidative Stress

چکیده
PURPOSE To measure endothelial function and oxidative stress immediately, 90 minutes, and three hours after exercise of varying intensities. METHODS Sixteen apparently healthy men completed three exercise bouts of treadmill running for 30 minutes at 55% V̇O(2max) (mild); 20 minutes at 75% V̇O(2max) (moderate); or 5 minutes at 100% V̇O(2max) (maximal) in random order. Brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD) was assessed with venous blood samples drawn for measurement of endothelin-1 (ET-1), lipid hydroperoxides (LOOHs), and lipid soluble antioxidants. RESULTS LOOH increased immediately following moderate exercise (P < 0.05). ET-1 was higher immediately after exercise and 3 hours after exercise in the mild trial compared to maximal one (P < 0.05). Transient decreases were detected for ΔFMD/Shear(AUC) from baseline following maximal exercise, but it normalised at 3 hours after exercise (P < 0.05). Shear rate was higher immediately after exercise in the maximal trial compared to mild exercise (P < 0.05). No changes in baseline diameter, peak diameter, absolute change in diameter, or FMD were observed following any of the exercise trials (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Acute exercise at different intensities elicits varied effects on oxidative stress, shear rate, and ET-1 that do not appear to mediate changes in endothelial function measured by FMD.

P-44: Effects of Nano Zinc Oxide Supplementation on Testicular Oxidative Stress in Adult Male Rats Exposed to Endurance Exercise
Background: Physical activity has a range of effects on male reproductive function depending upon the intensity and duration of the activity. Materials and Methods: In order to investigate the protective effects of nano zinc oxide on endurance exercise induced testicular oxidative stress, 30 adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into the following groups: control group (n=10); exercised ...
متن کاملEffects of L-citrulline on Oxidative Stress Markers Following High Intensity Interval Exercises in Hypertensive Patients
Background and Objectives: High blood pressure affects nearly 30% of adults. Inactivity and low intake of antioxidants are associated with increased risks of high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases. High intensity interval exercise increases blood pressure and oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of L-citrulline consumption on oxidative stress and antio...
متن کاملElectron spin resonance spectroscopy, exercise, and oxidative stress: an ascorbic acid intervention study.
Oxygen free radicals are highly reactive species that are produced in increased quantities during strenuous exercise and can damage critical biological targets such as membrane phospholipids. The present study examined the effect of acute ascorbic acid supplementation on exercise-induced free radical production in healthy subjects. Results demonstrate increases in the intensity of the alpha-phe...
متن کاملEffects of a flavonoid-rich juice on inflammation, oxidative stress, and immunity in elite swimmers: a metabolomics-based approach.
The effects of a flavonoid-rich fresh fruit and vegetable juice (JUICE) on chronic resting and postexercise inflammation, oxidative stress, immune function, and metabolic profiles (metabolomics analysis, gas-chromatography mass-spectrometry platform) in elite sprint and middle-distance swimmers were studied. In a randomized, crossover design with a 3-wk washout period, swimmers (n = 9) complete...
متن کاملThe effect of phytochemical compounds on indicators of oxidative stress, inflammation and skeletal muscle damage caused by physical activity
Physical activities are associated with increased production of reactive oxygen species. The production of reactive oxygen species is dependent of the intensity, duration and type of activity. Although the physiological amounts of reactive oxygen species are necessary to regulate cell reactions, their excessive production can cause numerous damages to the structure and function of cells and wea...
